What is a shower steamer and how does it work?

A shower steamer is an aromatherapy product, infused with menthol and essential oils to be released into the air for you to enjoy while taking a shower. When shower steamers become wet, they release these essential oils into the air.

There are many ways to enjoy your shower steamers, however it’s very important to note these are NOT like a shower bomb or bath bomb. Shower steamers produce vapours to be inhaled. They are not to be used directly on the skin as they contain menthol and a high concentration of essential oils.

Different ways to use your shower steamers

Option 1: Place your shower steamer on the shower floor, away from the direct stream. The steamer will be activated by splashes to release the oils and vapor into the air. The heat and steam will carry it upwards for you to breathe in. It’s best to place the steamer farther away and slowly bring it closer to the water until you find the sweet spot. Too close to the water and the steamer will dissolve too quickly, too far from the water and the steamer will release too little scent.

Option 2: Put the steamer in an organza bag and hang it on the shower head or a basket at head height. Splash some water on the steamer to activate it. Avoid letting the steamer mix drip on your skin.

Option 3: Place the steamer in a bowl (not aluminum or plastic). Once in the shower, add some water to the bowl and let the steamer dissolve. You can position the bowl at head level or splash the water on the shower wall above head height to disperse the oils into the air.

Option 4: While in the shower, wet the steamer and draw with it on the wall or glass. This will leave residue that will be enjoyed during your shower and can be easily cleaned afterward.
